Huddersfield lost by 5 wickets - in last over

Huddersfield continued their fixtures with a last over defeat to the cup holders Heavy Woollen at Broad Oak.
Huddersfield won the toss and decided to bat, and despite losing Buckley early, Tom Denton - 81, and Ben Raven Hill - 36, put on a stand of 89.
With Huddersfield going well, Raven Hill was run out as Denton played down to third man, did not move as he thought the ball had gone over the boundary, leaving Raven Hill stranded, which was a silly and cheap dismissal, and had a big impact on the result.
The middle order batsmen all contributed, with debutants Charlie Roebuck and Tom Kemp particularly impressive.
Roebuck scored 22 off 22 balls, and Tom Kemp a superb 50 off 40.
Shepley’s Tom Denton hit an immaculate 81 with 13 fours and 1 six, and Huddersfield closed with a creditable 245 on the board.

On the first ball of the Heavy Woollen innings debutant wicket keeper, Matthew Payne, put down a straightforward catch from Sam Scott, which was another turning point in the game, but there were more dropped catches, that also influenced the game.
The opening spell of Scott and Nick Sharpe was good, and they were the pick of the Huddersfield bowlers.
Micklehurst’s Greg Buckley did not have his best day with the ball, and Heavy Woollen’s batters always looked in control, even though they scored the winning runs in the last over.
Catches win matches, but the cheap dismissals of Raven Hill and Denton had an impact on the result.

Huddersfield will look back on this game with anger and disappointment.
Cup holders Heavy Woollen are an extremely good side, but so are Huddersfield, who had enough opportunities to win this game, but simply did not take them.
Huddersfield had the opportunity of posting another 30 runs when batting, and their fielding display was only average.
They played well, but they did not show the discipline and cutting edge required to win games at this level, and will make every effort to do better, when they play North Yorkshire in a must win game at Stokesley next Sunday 11 June.

Players selected to meet at Huddersfield Railway Station at 10-15 am.
