- Huddersfield destroy Bradford League -

It is a rare, if not, unique experience when any Huddersfield representative cricket team, from open age to U11, can say they destroyed the “mighty” Bradford League, but the Huddersfield Joe Lumb team did exactly that on Sunday at Windhill.

From the first to the last ball of the game Huddersfield were in a dominant and majestic mood.
They were simply awesome and continue to respond to the nightmares they had after their only defeat of the season against Heavy Woollen.
Huddersfield again won the toss and batted, and immediately set about the Bradford attack, with Shepley’s Tom Denton, fresh from his century in the previous game, simply destroying the bowlers from the first ball he received, in scoring a record breaking 175 in 100 balls, including 17 fours and 12 sixes, with h
is first 50 coming in 32 balls, his second in 31 balls, and his third in only 28.
He was involved in an opening stand of 50 with Ben Raven Hill, a first wicket stand of 83 with Chris Matthewman, and a second wicket stand of 130 with Greg Buckley (50), finally departing in the 36th over.
Sam Scott (63 not out) produced an excellent innings, and he was well supported by Greg Wadsworth in a final stand of 61, that saw Huddersfield reaching 384 for 7 at the close, but were disappointed not to reach 400.

A lot has been written about Tom Denton, who has now become a consistent class performer, and the only surprise is that Yorkshire have not included him in their set-up, as there cannot be a better batter of his age in the county ?

Bradford replied and four spinners supported Huddersfield pace bowler, Sam Scott, who, as always, bowled aggressively with a good line and length, but the spinners did the damage, as Ben Raven Hill (1-18), Greg Wadsworth (2-43) and Greg Buckley (4-18) all bowled well, to dismiss Bradford for 126, giving Huddersfield a victory by a resounding 258 runs.

This was an awesome display by a strong Huddersfield side, who never allowed Bradford into the game, and the result was never in doubt.

Huddersfield were without Butterfield, Oldham and Sharpe for this game, and after a performance like this they will find it hard to recover their places in the team when Huddersfield play East Yorkshire at Hull Zingari in their next game on July 30th.

The big crowd will never forget this tremendous performance by the Huddersfield team, but their lasting memory will be the majestic innings of Tom Denton.
